2017 RNA PADDOCK TO PALATE COMPETITION
Droughtmasters have dominated the feedlot stage of the “Paddock to Palate” competition run in conjunction with the annual Exhibition. Presentations took place today at Mort & Co’s Grassdale Feedlot where the cattle have been on feed.
One of the outstanding results was a number of wins and places by the Atkinson Family from “Katandra” Hughenden with their Angus X Droughtmaster steers.
In the 100 day grain fed classes, the Atkinsons placed First, Second and Fourth in the Rabobank Best Weight Gain for a pen of 6 grain fed steers
1st place ADG 3.117kg/day
2nd place ADG 3.026kg/day
4th place ADG 2.972kg/day
In the 100 Day on Feed - Individual Animals class
2nd place went to Ken & Kerry McKenzie “Yaralla” with a Droughtmaster X steer - ADG of 3.599
Rob & Donna Atkinson Atkinson Pastoral Co 4th with an Angus X Droughtmaster steer - ADG of 3.43
70 Days on Feed
Rob & Donna Atkinson won the Elanco Animal Health highest individual weight gain (70 days on feed) with an Angus X Droughtmaster Steer, ADG 3.94.
The Atkinsons also placed 5th with a pen of Angus x Droughtmasters steers, ADG 2.82
These results confirm the huge commercial value of Droughtmasters and Droughtmaster-cross in the beef cattle industry.
Our best wishes and congratulations go to the Atkinson Family and to the McKenzie Family.
It was pleasing to see quite a number of Droughtmaster and Droughtmaster cross cattle in the competition. Other competitors included Santos, Gus & Jen McCormack, Peter Howes & Co., Nerohn Pastoral Co., TV & PE O’Brien and Brodie & Ayesha Clifford.
The final stage of the competition will see the animals processed and judged on the hook and then points are awarded for MSA Eating Quality.
