On the weekend of the 13th and 14th October, a Droughtmaster Handling School was held at Chinchilla Showgrounds hosted by Dave McCabe (Breffni Droughtmaster Stud). 7 participants attended, ranging in age from 8-17 years old. The event attracted participants all the way from Stanthorpe and Goondoowindi, as well as many locals. Whilst we were blessed with rain, it meant that the day started off undercover with splicing of rope to make leads and halters and leather plaiting. This was then followed with Megan Krause teaching the attendees about meat judging, following her recent travels with the UQ team to do Intercollegiate Meat Judging in Wagga Wagga. Other topics covered were Prime and Stud Cattle Judging, Artificial Breeding, Clipping and parading. A massive thanks goes to Dave McCabe (Breffni Droughtmaster Stud) for organising the school, and instructors Megan Krause and Hannah Holmes. Catering for the weekend was done by Cameby Hall. Thanks to Darryl & Midge Bishop, Jenny Kerr, Robyn & Priscilla McCabe, Karen Auty as well as the
many other extra hands that helped behind the scenes.
