Cattlemen in Pearls on Landline
November 7, 2018
For most Australians, watching ABC’s Landline at lunchtime is a regular part of the week-end. In last Sunday’s program, a segment on the launch of a book “Cattlemen in Pearls” and the story behind its conception, was aired. Among the 28 women profiled in the collection of stories are two Droughtmaster breeders, Alison Atkinson and Jenny Underwood.
Many people would recognise Alison’s name as being synonymous alongside the name Droughtmaster. Alison’s contribution to the beef cattle industry, and more specifically the Droughtmaster breed, saw her awarded Life Membership of the Droughtmaster Society last year.
The footage for the segment was shot during this year’s Ekka, some of it in the Droughtmaster Stud judging ring. You may notice a number of familiar faces including that of young up and coming "cattleman in pearls", Chloe Davey, who was the Associate Judge. Congratulations to all involved and in particular, Ian and Anne Galloway, who commissioned the writing of the book.
