Bronwyn Betts Honoured with Droughtmaster President’s Award

11 Aug 2025

The Droughtmaster President’s Award honours the contribution of past presidents to the breed and forms part of the Society’s initiative to recognise outstanding service and dedication to the Droughtmaster. In August 2025, the award was presented to Bronwyn Betts, a member who has given so much to the breed, often without seeking any recognition.

Bronwyn is a lifelong champion of the Droughtmaster whose influence spans decades. Bronwyn’s connection to the breed runs deep – a legacy she inherited from her father, Jack Betts, founder of the renowned Nindethana Stud. At a time when urban development continues to encroach on rural land, Bronwyn has ensured that Droughtmasters remain not only present, but celebrated within her community.

Bronwyn’s contribution to the breed is as diverse as it is significant. She has devoted countless hours to organising events, reporting on shows, writing for the Droughtmaster Magazine, and mentoring new members. Her fundraising initiative, Straws For A Cause, has raised substantial funds for the Droughtmaster Research & Education Foundation, enabling bursaries for young people to attend major industry events such as Beef 2021 and Beef 2024. Her commitment to education is further evident through her open-door policy at Nindethana, where schools, agriculture students, and veterinary students have all been welcomed to learn more about the breed.

As South East Zone Director, Bronwyn has worked tirelessly to foster a connected and inclusive Droughtmaster community, breaking down barriers and bringing breeders together across regions. Her leadership was particularly evident during the Society’s 60th anniversary year, when she played a pivotal role in delivering the combined Futurity and Feature Show, an event that showcased her organisational skills, determination, and deep commitment to the breed.

Bronwyn’s approach to leadership is marked by quiet determination, generosity of spirit, and an unwavering dedication to both people and cattle. She has consistently demonstrated that true influence comes not from seeking recognition, but from working for the greater good of the community she serves.

The Droughtmaster Society congratulates Bronwyn Betts on being the 2025 recipient of the President’s Award – a fitting acknowledgement of her exceptional service, enduring passion, and invaluable contribution to the Droughtmaster breed.
