President’s Award Recognises Don McConnel’s Outstanding Contribution
10 Aug 2026Droughtmaster Australia is proud to announce Don McConnel as the recipient of the 2026 President’s Award, presented at the Ekka in recognition of his longstanding contribution, practical knowledge and unwavering support of the Droughtmaster breed.
Presented by Droughtmaster Australia President Steve Farmer, the President’s Award recognises individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to the breed and the wider Droughtmaster community.
Don has been a valued supporter of Droughtmaster Australia for many years, generously sharing his time, experience and knowledge to help strengthen the breed and its position within the Australian beef industry.
In recent years, Don has played an especially important role in assisting Droughtmaster Australia with its feedlot trials. His hands-on support, practical guidance and willingness to contribute wherever needed have been invaluable in helping the Society undertake this important work and continue building meaningful data around the performance of Droughtmaster cattle.
Don’s contribution extends well beyond any one project. His depth of industry knowledge, practical approach and genuine commitment to seeing Droughtmasters succeed have made him a trusted and highly respected member of the Droughtmaster community.
Much of Don’s contribution has taken place behind the scenes, simply getting on with the job and giving his time and expertise for the benefit of the breed. It is this generosity, dedication and willingness to help that embodies the spirit of the President’s Award.
